The CXSU63133 is a compact, PFM mode, and step-upHNk嘉泰姆

DC-DC converter with low quiescent current. The inter-HNk嘉泰姆
nal synchronous rectifier reduces cost and PCB spaceHNk嘉泰姆
by eliminating the need for an external Schottky diode.HNk嘉泰姆
Low on-resistance of the internal switches improves theHNk嘉泰姆
efficiency up to 92%. The start-up voltage is guaranteedHNk嘉泰姆
below 1V. After start-up, the device can operate with inputHNk嘉泰姆
voltage down to 0.7V. The CXSU63133 is suitable for por-HNk嘉泰姆
table battery-powered applications. Consuming only 11μAHNk嘉泰姆
quiescent current and an optimized control scheme al-HNk嘉泰姆
lows the device to operate at very high efficiency over theHNk嘉泰姆

Inductor SelectionHNk嘉泰姆
The inductor value determines the inductor ripple currentHNk嘉泰姆
and affects the load transient response. It is recom-HNk嘉泰姆
mended to select the boost inductor in order to keep theHNk嘉泰姆
maximum peak inductor current below the current limitHNk嘉泰姆
threshold of the power switch. For example, the currentHNk嘉泰姆
limit threshold of the CXSU63133’s switch is 600mA. ForHNk嘉泰姆
choosing an inductor which has peak current passed,HNk嘉泰姆
firstly, it is necessary to consider the output load (IOUT),HNk嘉泰姆
input (VIN), and output voltage (VOUT). Secondly, the de-HNk嘉泰姆
sired current ripple in the inductor also needed to beHNk嘉泰姆
taken into account. The current was calculated in “OutputHNk嘉泰姆
Capacitor Selection”. Since the output ripple is the prod-HNk嘉泰姆
uct of the peak inductor current and the output capacitorHNk嘉泰姆
ESR, the larger inductor value reduces the inductor cur-HNk嘉泰姆
rent ripple and output voltage ripple but typically offers aHNk嘉泰姆
larger physical size.HNk嘉泰姆

The converter monitors the output voltage. When the in-HNk嘉泰姆
ternal feedback voltage falls below the reference voltage,HNk嘉泰姆
the main switch turns on and the inductor current rampsHNk嘉泰姆
up. The main switch turns off when the current reachesHNk嘉泰姆
the peak current limit of typical 600mA. The second crite-HNk嘉泰姆
rion that turns off the switch is the maximum on-time ofHNk嘉泰姆
4μs (typical). As the main switch is turned off, the syn-HNk嘉泰姆
chronous switch is turned on and delivers the current toHNk嘉泰姆
the output. The main switch remains off for a minimum ofHNk嘉泰姆
900ns (typical), or until the internal feedback voltage dropsHNk嘉泰姆
below the reference voltage. By the control scheme withHNk嘉泰姆
low quiescent current of 11μA (typical), the converter getsHNk嘉泰姆
high efficiency over a wide load range. HNk嘉泰姆
Start-UpHNk嘉泰姆
A startup oscillator circuit is integrated in the CXSU63133.HNk嘉泰姆
When the power is applied to the device, the circuit pumpsHNk嘉泰姆
the output voltage high. Once the output voltage reachesHNk嘉泰姆
1.4V (typ), the main DC-DC circuitry turns on and boostsHNk嘉泰姆
the output voltage to the final regulation point.HNk嘉泰姆
Synchronous RectificationHNk嘉泰姆
The internal synchronous rectifier eliminates the needHNk嘉泰姆
for an external Schottky diode, thus, reducing cost andHNk嘉泰姆
board space. During the cycle off-time, the P-channelHNk嘉泰姆
MOSFET turns on and shunts the MOSFET body diode.HNk嘉泰姆
As a result, the synchronous rectifier significantly improvesHNk嘉泰姆
efficiency without the addition of an external component.HNk嘉泰姆
Conversion efficiency can be as high as 92%. HNk嘉泰姆
Over-Temperature ProtectionHNk嘉泰姆
The over-temperature circuit limits the junction tempera-HNk嘉泰姆
ture of the CXSU63133. When the junction temperature ex-HNk嘉泰姆
ceeds 150°C, a thermal sensor turns off the powerHNk嘉泰姆
MOSFETs, allowing the devices to cool. The thermal sen-HNk嘉泰姆
sor allows the converter to start a start-up process andHNk嘉泰姆
regulate the output voltage again after the junction tem-HNk嘉泰姆
perature cools by 40°C. The OTP is designed with a 40°CHNk嘉泰姆
hysteresis to lower the average TJ during continuous ther-HNk嘉泰姆
mal overload conditions, increasing lifetime of the device.HNk嘉泰姆
