The CXSU63133 is a compact, PFM mode, and step-upFC6嘉泰姆

DC-DC converter with low quiescent current. The inter-FC6嘉泰姆
nal synchronous rectifier reduces cost and PCB spaceFC6嘉泰姆
by eliminating the need for an external Schottky diode.FC6嘉泰姆
Low on-resistance of the internal switches improves theFC6嘉泰姆
efficiency up to 92%. The start-up voltage is guaranteedFC6嘉泰姆
below 1V. After start-up, the device can operate with inputFC6嘉泰姆
voltage down to 0.7V. The CXSU63133 is suitable for por-FC6嘉泰姆
table battery-powered applications. Consuming only 11μAFC6嘉泰姆
quiescent current and an optimized control scheme al-FC6嘉泰姆
lows the device to operate at very high efficiency over theFC6嘉泰姆

Inductor SelectionFC6嘉泰姆
The inductor value determines the inductor ripple currentFC6嘉泰姆
and affects the load transient response. It is recom-FC6嘉泰姆
mended to select the boost inductor in order to keep theFC6嘉泰姆
maximum peak inductor current below the current limitFC6嘉泰姆
threshold of the power switch. For example, the currentFC6嘉泰姆
limit threshold of the CXSU63133’s switch is 600mA. ForFC6嘉泰姆
choosing an inductor which has peak current passed,FC6嘉泰姆
firstly, it is necessary to consider the output load (IOUT),FC6嘉泰姆
input (VIN), and output voltage (VOUT). Secondly, the de-FC6嘉泰姆
sired current ripple in the inductor also needed to beFC6嘉泰姆
taken into account. The current was calculated in “OutputFC6嘉泰姆
Capacitor Selection”. Since the output ripple is the prod-FC6嘉泰姆
uct of the peak inductor current and the output capacitorFC6嘉泰姆
ESR, the larger inductor value reduces the inductor cur-FC6嘉泰姆
rent ripple and output voltage ripple but typically offers aFC6嘉泰姆

The converter monitors the output voltage. When the in-FC6嘉泰姆
ternal feedback voltage falls below the reference voltage,FC6嘉泰姆
the main switch turns on and the inductor current rampsFC6嘉泰姆
up. The main switch turns off when the current reachesFC6嘉泰姆
the peak current limit of typical 600mA. The second crite-FC6嘉泰姆
rion that turns off the switch is the maximum on-time ofFC6嘉泰姆
4μs (typical). As the main switch is turned off, the syn-FC6嘉泰姆
chronous switch is turned on and delivers the current toFC6嘉泰姆
the output. The main switch remains off for a minimum ofFC6嘉泰姆
900ns (typical), or until the internal feedback voltage dropsFC6嘉泰姆
below the reference voltage. By the control scheme withFC6嘉泰姆
low quiescent current of 11μA (typical), the converter getsFC6嘉泰姆
high efficiency over a wide load range. FC6嘉泰姆
Start-UpFC6嘉泰姆
A startup oscillator circuit is integrated in the CXSU63133.FC6嘉泰姆
When the power is applied to the device, the circuit pumpsFC6嘉泰姆
the output voltage high. Once the output voltage reachesFC6嘉泰姆
1.4V (typ), the main DC-DC circuitry turns on and boostsFC6嘉泰姆
the output voltage to the final regulation point.FC6嘉泰姆
Synchronous RectificationFC6嘉泰姆
The internal synchronous rectifier eliminates the needFC6嘉泰姆
for an external Schottky diode, thus, reducing cost andFC6嘉泰姆
board space. During the cycle off-time, the P-channelFC6嘉泰姆
MOSFET turns on and shunts the MOSFET body diode.FC6嘉泰姆
As a result, the synchronous rectifier significantly improvesFC6嘉泰姆
efficiency without the addition of an external component.FC6嘉泰姆
Conversion efficiency can be as high as 92%. FC6嘉泰姆
Over-Temperature ProtectionFC6嘉泰姆
The over-temperature circuit limits the junction tempera-FC6嘉泰姆
ture of the CXSU63133. When the junction temperature ex-FC6嘉泰姆
ceeds 150°C, a thermal sensor turns off the powerFC6嘉泰姆
MOSFETs, allowing the devices to cool. The thermal sen-FC6嘉泰姆
sor allows the converter to start a start-up process andFC6嘉泰姆
regulate the output voltage again after the junction tem-FC6嘉泰姆
perature cools by 40°C. The OTP is designed with a 40°CFC6嘉泰姆
hysteresis to lower the average TJ during continuous ther-FC6嘉泰姆
mal overload conditions, increasing lifetime of the device.FC6嘉泰姆
